ET 2025 ΕΜΣΤ HUMANNATURE 02

Emma Talbot Human/Nature

15 May – 07 January 2026, National Museum of Contemporary Art (ΕΜΣΤ), Athens, GR

For the program Why Look at Animals? - A Case for the Rights of Non-Human Lives at ΕΜΣΤ, Emma Talbot created the installation Human/Nature including a 15m long silk painting, a sculpture, and the animation film You Are Not the Centre (Inside the Animal Mind), in which viewers are invited to step into the perception of non-human beings, from birds and insects to a stray dog. Through a disorienting narrative, a female human (the recurring faceless figure) enters the minds of different animals, experiencing their sensory and emotional worlds.

Chimera (2025) is the title of a three-dimensional hand-made, fabric work which explores the physical presence of a chimera; on one side, there is a stack of separate human and animal elements: wolf, woman, bird and snake journey through natural space. On the other side, the black silhouette of the stacked forms suggests they all share the same physical matter and energy, all part of the same living schema. Together, these works seek to unravel human-nature entanglements and envision the possibility of alternative, more caring futures.
