Is Joy A Rebellious Act 1 White Black

Emma Talbot | Is Joy a Rebellious Act? | Exhibition | Nov 28 - Dec 24 2026

November 28, 2026

The exhibition takes as its starting point Rosi Braidotti's thinking on the Posthuman.

Braidotti argues that we need stories of joy and hope. Without them, we begin to see ourselves as disconnected, powerless, and without a future. Instead, she suggests that resilience and survival can be found in the connections between humans, non-humans, and technology.

As Braidotti says, “we are rooted, but we flow” (Utrecht University lecture, 2023). This idea is part of what she calls an “Ethics of Joy” and zoe: the life force that connects all living things.

From this perspective, the exhibition looks at how life continues to grow and adapt through relationships, change, and interdependence. It suggests that even in times of uncertainty and complexity, there is still room for hope, transformation, and new possibilities.
